What are the symptoms of ADD?
ADD or Attention Deficit Disorder is the old name of the ADHD disease. The symptoms of ADD are very similar to general behavioral traits of the people because of which the disease o often misdiagnosed or even be undiagnosed. ADD or ADHD has been scientifically acknowledged only in the recent past and it is quite possible that many undiagnosed people still exist without getting proper treatment for their ailment. ADD cannot be rectified completely but can be controlled effectively with the help of behavioral therapy, medication and life style changes. People with ADD can learn t cope with the disease and adapt in their own unique way.
Symptoms of ADD have two aspects to them. Once set of symptoms display the inattentiveness traits of people with ADD. They are not able to pay attention to any work for longer duration of time. They are easily distracted and make many errors and mistakes. Adults with ADD will not be able to succeed in their jobs because of their inability to complete work. They also make a lot of mistakes and have difficulty in delivering work within timelines. Children with ADD are unable to understand their lessons in school and are prone to daydreaming and sluggishness. These symptoms can be easily confused with behavioral lethargy and distraction. All people are prone to this type of behavior but most of us snap out of it, after a while. People with ADD are incapable of changing their behavior and continue with this type of behavior throughout their lives.
The other aspect in the symptoms of ADD is the hyperactivity traits. These traits are displayed in symptoms like fidgetiness, restlessness and impulsiveness. These symptoms are more easily visible in children; adults have the maturity to control some of these symptoms but not always. Children with ADD often blurt out inappropriate comments. They are also constantly talkative and can jump from one task to the other and can also show aggressiveness. They also are very impatient and cannot sit still for long periods of time; they have to b constantly moving. Adults with ADD are always a bundle of energy but are unable to accomplish things or complete them. They can also display impulsive tendencies and recklessness in their actions. All these symptoms can be controlled with behavior therapy and some changes in life styles. Medication may also be needed in some cases.
